Organic Chemistry II (2nd year, 1st semester)
Organic Chemistry II (2nd year, 1st semester)
We will learn structure, property, and reaction of alcohol, ether, and alkene (Chapters 8, 9, and 12). Spectroscopies for determination of structures of organic compounds will also be introduced (Chapter 10 and 11). NMR, IR, and MS are very important analytical tools for synthetic research of organic molecules.

Industrial organic chemistry I (2nd year, 2nd semester)
We will learn structure, property, and reaction of alkynes, conjugated systems, and aromatics (Chapters 13, 14, 15, and 16). UV spectroscopy, which is one of the most important analytical technique for determination of molecular structure and concentration of dissolved substances, is introduced in chapter 14. Electrophilic aromatic substitution is one of the most important organic reactions and students find them frequently in examinations!

The best product yield (76%) of 1-phenylethanol was recorded by Ms. Tateishi in 2022. This yield is incredibliy high😱 because they isolated the product by distillation.

synthetic Organic chemistry (3rd year, 2nd semester)
synthetic Organic chemistry (3rd year, 2nd semester)
We will learn strategies to synthesize complex organic molecules and make a plan to synthesize the target molecule. "Scifinder-n", which is an online database available from the University website, is a useful tool for retro-synthesis of organic molecules. You will be able to make a rational plan to synthesize even unknown molecules.

Advanced Organometallic Chemistry (graduate school, 2nd Quarter)
Organometallic chemistry has been studied extensively by Japanese chemists. You should know names of Nobel Prize laureates, Prof. Noyori, Prof. Suzuki, and Prof. Negishi. We will learn basics of organometallic chemistry as well.
